Restaurants rarely provide nutrition info, and there is no kitchen scale. A photo of your plate gives an estimate of calories, protein, carbs and fat in seconds.
Why restaurant food is hard to track
When eating out, ingredients and amounts are unknown, and hidden fats like butter, oil or cream are hard to judge. A photo replaces guessing with a traceable estimate broken down by ingredient.
Tips for scanning at a restaurant
Photograph the plate right after it is served, before the first bite, ideally from above. Sides and sauces should be in frame. If you only eat part of it, adjust the servings or correct it later in the app.
Sauces, dressings and fried food often add many calories but are hard to judge in photos. If a dish looks visibly greasy, consider adding a buffer to the estimate.
