Strong or Hevy? An honest comparison for 2026

Paul Hummel Last reviewed September 14, 2026 5 min read
Quick answer

The practical difference is the free tier: Strong caps you at three custom routines, Hevy does not. If you just want a tracker and would rather not pay, take Hevy. If you want the tidiest interface, Strong holds up.

The two at a glance

Both are pure workout trackers with very similar handling: pick an exercise, enter sets, review the history. Both are highly rated. The difference is almost entirely the pricing model.

When Strong is the better pick

If a minimal, long-matured interface matters more to you than price — and if three routines are enough, or you want the one-off "PRO Forever" option that Hevy does not offer.

When Hevy is the better pick

For almost everyone else. Hevy is free and ad-free, allows unlimited routines, and at 4.9 stars from around 241,000 ratings holds the best rating in the field. If you run a PPL split or rotating blocks, Strong's three-routine cap arrives fast.

And if neither fits?

Both apps above cover one side each. If you want training and nutrition in one app, you otherwise end up with two subscriptions and two histories that know nothing about each other. That is where GymLog AI comes in: sets, meals and an AI coach in one chat, by text, voice or photo. Permanently free tier, data on EU servers, iOS and Android.

Training and nutrition in one app

GymLog AI captures sets and meals in the same chat – by text, voice or photo. Free to start.
