    Quick answer

Besides calories, the scanner estimates protein, carbs and fat in grams from a photo and shows the share of calories each macronutrient contributes.

How the macro shares are calculated

The percentages under protein, carbs and fat show their share of the meal's energy, using the general Atwater factors described by the FAO (2003): 4.0 kcal per gram of protein and carbohydrate, 9.0 kcal per gram of fat. That makes it easy to see whether a meal is protein-, carb- or fat-heavy.

Who benefits from macros by photo

People building muscle usually focus on protein per meal. A photo scan quickly shows whether a meal delivers a lot or little protein. Daily protein recommendations are covered in the protein guide.

Macros from a photo are estimates. Fat carries the most uncertainty, because oil and butter are barely visible in pictures.

    Track every meal in seconds

GymLog AI logs meals via photo, voice or chat – with daily targets for calories and macros.
